Team Fortress was a major gaming phenomenon. The online community built around TF (using the quakeworld engine) was tight, active, and dedicated. Gorebagg released a couple dozen maps into the TF community. Of these maps a half dozen gained major popularity. Some primary with his clan, and many with the whole TF community.
Gorebagg's maps were noted for their balance and out-of-the-box design. A map needs to do more than look good, it has to play good too. :) Meaning it requires team balance and play balance. This is something that can be very difficult to achieve.
The trick to play balance is to make sure that the stronger team is not given exponential advantage. When that happens they will crush the weaker team. Instead, the designer needs to leave loop holes so that the underdog team always has a way to turn the tide. Not an easy thing to do. And, quite frankly, not enough CTF designers take this into consideration.
Below you'll find a few youtube vids showing pieces of these old maps. It's a wonder we could all keep our day jobs given the amount of time we put into designing and playing these maps.
